Archaeologist, historian, cultural manager, well known research specialist of medieval gastro culture Gabriealla Kohári has trusted us with a unique assignment. Gabriella had to assemble a menu for a palatial medieval dinner which was held on the occasion of the 650th anniversary of the Foundation of the University of Pécs. The dinner was organized in collaboration with the Pezsgőház restaurant in Pécs and was held on the 11th of February 2017. Among several dishes Gabriella had to manufacture 300 marzipan chess figures as dessert, based on authentic medieval analogies. We used modern 3D technologies for planning and implementing the task. First we had to model the figures and modify their proportions to fit the needs of the manufacturing form, after this we had to create the negatives from the base models which were printed with a 3D printer. The result speaks for itself, the manufacturing time of 300 marzipan figures could be shortened compared to the original handmade method.
